Articles (A, An, The)
1) Indefinite Articles (A/An)
A और An को Indefinite Articles कहते हैं क्योंकि ये किसी अनिश्चित (Indefinite) noun के पहले आते हैं।
इनका प्रयोग सामान्यत: Singular Countable Nouns के साथ होता है।
I saw a girl. (any girl)
He saw an owl. (any owl)
Uncountable nouns के साथ a/an का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता।
A table is made of wood. (✔ table countable है, ✘ wood uncountable है)
2) Definite Article (The)
The को Definite Article कहते हैं क्योंकि यह किसी निश्चित (Definite) noun के पहले आता है।
I went to meet the teacher. (the teacher of our class)
3) Use of A/An
- Singular Countable Noun के पहले।
- यदि consonant sound से शुरू हो → A
- यदि vowel sound से शुरू हो → An
A cow has a tail.
An orange grows on a tree.
4) Use of The
- जब noun दूसरी बार आए।
- Superlative degree से पहले।
- Religious communities, books, rivers, oceans, parties, newspapers, monuments आदि से पहले।
- दुनिया में केवल एक वस्तु (Sun, Moon, Earth) से पहले।
- Ordinals (first, second, last) से पहले।
- Historical buildings, inventions, body parts, instruments से पहले।
- Structure noun + of + noun से पहले।
- कुछ देश (the USA, the UK, the USSR) से पहले।
- Adjective को noun की तरह प्रयोग करने पर (The rich, The poor)।
- Comparative degree as adverb (The harder you work...)
